One of the world's largest IT exhibition, Computex 2016, ready to be held in Taipei this week. ARM harness the moment to introduce its newest CPU and GPU, i.e. Cortex-A73 and Mali-G71.
ARM Cortex-A73
Cortex-Franconia has promised the performance of 30 percent firmer than its predecessor, namely the Cortex-A72. Despite the more powerful engines to support various needs, ARM still prioritize the increased power efficiency. Cortex-A73 touted more efficient power consumption by up to 30 percent. The CPU is made with semiconductor process 10nm. Each core its measures only 0.65 square millimetres.
One thing has also become a top priority of the developing Cortex-A73 is a matter of 'Hurricane performance'. In the generation ARM Cortex before, when the CPU reaches its peak performance (peak performance) is usually the chipset will be hot. Because of that performance will be automatically lowered the percent to keep a sustainable activity can support (Hurricane performance) but does not overheat. In Cortex-A73, the difference between the peak performace and Hurricane performance barely exist.
Mali GPU-G71
Mali-G71 GPU became the first to use a new architecture called Bifrost. This GPU supports screen resolutions up to 4 k multi sample with 4 x anti-aliasing. Refresh rate him reach 120, meaning 33 percent above the standard minimum refresh rate for the VR (Virtual Reality), i.e. 90Hz.
Yes, Mali-G71 indeed developed to support mobile devices in VR content to run on better performance. With lower latency, Mali-G71 promising more comfort while enjoying maximum content-based VR.
In performance compared to Mali-Mali-G71, T880 40 percent firmer and 20 percent more power-efficient. The GPU has a 32 shader cores, or two times more than that used on the Mali-T880.In addition, Mali-G71 is also optimized for the Vulcan and other FIRE that became industry standards, including OpenGL ES and OpenCL.
All the above enables smartphone featuring a much more visually sharp and smooth. More interesting, confident performance ARM Mali-G71 laptop GPU can be synchronised with the entry-level class.
Circulating in the market next year
Devices that are already adopting the Cortex-A73 and Mali-G71 believed recently circulating in the market at the end of the year 2016 or 2017. The presence of both appears to be increasingly popularized the trend enjoyed VR on the mobile device.
Big names such as Samsung, LG, Lenovo, Huawei, Asus, and more else now has begun to focus on bringing the device provided with supporting features VR. Moreover, VR platform Google Daydream will also slide along Android OS N.
